Location
Ross Lough is located in County Fermanagh. As the Sillees River makes its way towards Lower Lough Erne it passes through Ross Lough which is settled in a hollow amongst drumlins. Therefore, this has resulted in an increase in the variety of habitats available here which include open water, swamp, fen and wet meadow.
Sights and sounds
This area is known to be flooded during wintertime with only trees such as alder and willow that can withstand being in these wet conditions.
This area is ungrazed and is situated east of Lough Erne. Limited grazing has allowed reeds, sedges and bulrushes to grow tall, and these are mixed in with the typical wetland plants that you will normally find growing here such as the yellow flag iris and purple loosestrife.
