This short stretch of canal fishes best during high water levels, when roach and bream move in from the River Bann for shelter. Pike follow these shaols of coarse fish. Numerous perch can be caught close to the lock gates. Beware of the strong current and deep water where the canal enters the River Bann.

  • From Belfast: Leave Belfast via the A6; continue towards Derry/Londonderry, at the Drumberg roundabout take the first exit onto Moneynick Road, into Toome village.
  • From Randalstown: Follow the A6 towards Derry/Londonderry, at the Drumberg roundabout take the first exit onto Moneynick Road, into Toome village.
  • From Magherafelt:
    • Follow the A6 towards Belfast, at the Brecart roundabout take the third exit onto Roguery Road, follow into Toome village.
    • Leave Magherafelt via the Aughrim Road; turn right onto the Creagh road; at the Creagh roundabout take the third exit onto Roguery Road, follow into Toome village.
